Iris pigment epithelial cysts in a newborn
PURPOSE We report a case of iris pigment epithelial cysts in a newborn and discuss the importance of an accurate diagnosis for prevention of amblyopia. METHODS We describe a case of an abnormal red reflex seen on a newborn exam. RESULTS A full-term female born via normal spontaneous vaginal delivery without any complications was seen in the newborn nursery. She was noted to have an abnormal...
متن کاملIris pigment epithelial cells express a functional lipopolysaccharide receptor complex.
PURPOSE Ocular pigment epithelial cells are hypothesized to play a role in the pathogenesis of acute anterior uveitis (AAU), where LPS activation of Toll-like receptors (TLRs) may serve as a trigger. In this study, the expression of LPS receptors in iris pigment epithelium (IPE) was determined. METHODS RT-PCR, flow cytometry, Western blot, and immunohistochemistry were used to investigate the...
متن کاملIris stromal imbrication oversewing for pigment epithelial defects.
We present a novel iris repair technique for the management of iris transillumination defects secondary to iris pigment epithelium (IPE) loss, which includes iris oversewing over the defect through partial iris stromal bites with 10-0 polypropylene. This technique provides a healthy layer of iris covering the transillumination defect without the creation of new defects on the contiguous IPE.
متن کاملIncreased iris thickness and association with primary angle closure glaucoma.
AIMS To investigate the relationship between quantitative iris parameters and angle closure disease. methods: Participants with angle closure were recruited prospectively from glaucoma clinics. Anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT) was performed under standardised dark conditions. Customised software was used on horizontal AS-OCT scans to measure iris thickness at 750 um...
متن کاملPrimary Pupillary Margin Cyst of the Iris Pigment Epithelium
Purpose: Description of a patient with a solitary cyst of the pupillary margin iris pigment epithelium (IPE). Methods: A 63-year-old man referred a suspected iris-ciliary body melanoma in his left eye. Based on both clinical examination and ultrasound biomicroscopy, melanoma was considered unlikely. Surgery was undertaken to correct recurrent deterioration of vision due to movement of the lesio...
